Humbly seeking the expertise of this sub - Step by step instructions for conversion?

I can't take Microsoft anything any more and Apple hasn't been the same since Jobs.

I'm buying a gaming laptop in a few days to ensure it has the best specs. Out of the box I'd like to set it up as a Linux machine.

It will be used for light video editing, some graphics work, and regular project management tasks.

I want to get it to the point that it's as easy to run as an iOS machine, however, all of my paid apps are PC.

Is there a step-by-step guide that anyone can point to so that I can get the new laptop set up as quickly as possible and get to work? I'm assuming I'll also need to run a virtual machine for the PC software?
