📚 I want a desktop environment where the "desktop" is a full terminal

Here's a very crude photoshop mockup of what I'm trying to do: https://imgur.com/a/2CU5wvf

In the image you can see there's a full terminal, but there's still a dock and the ability to alt+tab between graphical apps and the terminal. It's basically still a graphical DE, the only difference is that the "desktop" is replaced by a fully functional terminal.

I haven't seen any DE's that implement this. Does anyone know if there's some DE that would be easy enough to modify to implement this? I'll take hacky ideas if you have them, it would be nice to test drive this idea.
