Coders in open source have a unique challenge compared to other software projects, they have to do EVERYTHING from UI to quality assurance. Software teams have many members who can't code because it's not reasonable to expect them to be jack of all trades, it's an unrealistic burden.
This also hurts the software quality itself. Are you a solid UI designer but can't code? Too bad. Know how to make software accessible for the disabled, but can't code? Too bad. Got an amazing idea everyone would want but can't code? Oh well.
Open soft contributions are made through commits. Non-coders can make issues, but not commits. They can bring up issues or ideas, but the ones who code have to actually want to implement them.
So what if we made commits that weren't code based, and voted on by users to dictate what the developers focus on?
If that sounds like a silly idea, give me some non-silly ideas.
