Okay, so, my wife and I are both fed up with Windows. 11's numerous bugs and glitches, CoPilot and Recall were the straw that pushed me from being a dual-booter to a "Windows is for gaming on a separate isolated computer" kind of person.
My wife is also interested in switching, partially because she hates Windows 11 possibly more than I do and partially because she hates AI... Possibly more than I do.
She's actually a pretty easy case- Most of her work is done in Discord, Krita and Firefox anyways.
I'm a recent convert to the world of RPM distros. I've had enough of Arch, Endeavour, and the bleeding edge, and I've learned to dislike Ubuntu and Debian in general over the years because there really doesn't feel like a good mid ground between "having 3 year old packages" and "having a stable system" over on that side of the house. I also think the deep supply chain of having your distro be based on like 3-4 distros upstream results in this; I like how Fedora and SUSE are independent and the only thing upstream of them are the original repos.
Anyways- I'm trying to decide between putting her machine on Fedora Kionite or OpenSUSE Leap. I'm trying out the leading edge equivalent for both so I'll form my own opinions, just curious to hear what others have to say if you've tried both or been where I am before.
Some extra context, I am pro-KDE and she almost certainly will be too given that she's only ever used Windows. I'm also looking to keep our house on the same family of distros so I don't lose my mind providing tech support for a bunch of different release models and package repos. That includes a home server or two. She's also a light gamer, currently on an Nvidia GTX 980, but I've looked up all her games and they're all well-supported in ProtonDB or by plain 'ol WINE.
Oh, no kids. Just the two of us and way too many small form factor servers.
