Does the laptop go to sleep and wakeup when closing and opening the lid?

So I am planning to buy a windows laptop (hp pavillion plus 14) and install linux on it but I am curious that does the closing and opening the lid function the same when done on a macbook or windows laptop where it goes to sleep and wakes up instantly?

Also my preferred distro would be either one of these which ever is more stable and user-friendly for someone looking to use it as a main os and not like an enthusiast:-

Linux mint Fedora Zorin os ?

Would love your thoughts on these distros too!
