Is it just me or Intel remains the golden standard of Linux compatibility while AMD is greatly overhyped?

Since back when Ryzen was released there was a great hype surrounding their better efficiency, multi core performance and Linux compatibility, which of course is less problematic than NVIDIA with their closed source driverd, but Intel was definitely stagnant with their product lineups.

I bought into it and my last 3 laptop purchases were AMD only laptops precisely for believing they would provide the best Linux experience. Within this time-frame I used mostly openSUSE Tumbleweed and the latest Fedora.

Well, the first laptop died within 3 years, and had some weird CPU spikes, and resume from suspend was hit or miss. Also I had to deal with broadcom drivers constantly breaking with kernel updates.

The second laptop had frequent freezes causing the session to hang and require cold reboots. I tried several solutions and kernel parameters but the issue remained to this day.

The third laptop, with RX dGPU, constantly flickers when connecting to a external FreeSync 144hz display.

My most recent purchase was finally a Intel laptop with Xe graphics (LG Gram), and behold, I have none of these issues at all. Wayland, suspend and resume, external displays, battery runtime equal to Windows, all works great. It might be just luck with this particular model but honestly it made me regret my past purchases.

Since then I have learned more about Intel active and timely contributions to the Linux kernel and I am hoping the layoffs won't cause that to decrease.

Either Intel has been improving a lot these last few years or AMD has been overhyped, but the hassle free experience with a Intel laptop has made me hesitant with going to AMD+NVIDIA on my next desktop build, I am Seriously considering going with Intel CPU+Arc GPU.
