I've been reading a lot of posts in this sub after the Windows 11's downfall, I truly appreciate those who are recognising the privacy concerns and are trying to make their cyberlife safer.
With MacOS breaking the limits of how proprietary a proprietary software can be, and Windows being a privacy buster since the release of Win10, there aren't as many options for PC users, except to go for a Linux distro.
With that in mind, having hundred posts from users trying to move to Linux, asking questions about the most basic necessities to run Linux as a daily driver such as:
Choice of distro,
Choice of DE,
Best OSS packages for QoL, such as power management for laptops, color adjustment utilities, sound utilities, wireless utilities etc
...is not optimal. What I think can help will be a community effort to make a one-stop destination for such recommendations. The inspiration for this post came to me after I saw the .
As a fellow Linux user for the past year, I definitely agree with whoever that says there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution for any of the aforementioned necessities, and the customizability is what gives Linux the advantage. But I also think that it's equally important to bring attention to promising software so that they'll receive more support in the form of issues, feedback and PRs, and it will eventually help improve the Linux experience altogether.
Ofcourse what I'm implying is a good starter pack, so that the user can slowly try out others as they understand what they feel is lacking in their current software, and give feedback to the software on the way.
