Is Ubuntu still the best platform for a user-friendly experience?

My wife is needing a computer for school, and I have an old all-in-one from the early 20-teens that I think I can dust off.

The issue is, this thing is a turtle. It is beyond slow. It will function with Windows 10, but I feel like dropping a lightweight, user-friendly distro on it would be a better move. It just needs to be able to browse the web, use the built-in camera for Zoom, and print documents.

I haven't touched Linux in over a decade, and I remember Ubuntu being the move for simplicity. Is that still the case?
