I'm using Windows 10 EOL as an excuse to replace my partner's very old PC. I've got an Aliexpress N100 which I bought for a project that never worked out. My thinking is to get a VESA cage for it to and attach it to the monitor to give her some more desk space. I'm going to install Linux on it, so when she turns it on she can quickly get to a web browser, but I know she's going to want Office and other bits and I don't want to have to keep training her in alternatives.
I've got more then enough compute in my home lab to spin up a decent Win 11 VM which she can remote on to. However, RDP and VNC can seem laggy if you're trying to use it as a proper OS, like watch videos. Are then any good alternatives that are easy to set up which would work from Linux to Windows if bandwidth isn't an issue?
I'm looking to put a simple shortcut on her desktop which she can click and connect to the Win 11 VM. But I'm also hoping that she'll use Linux a bit before doing so and might like it.
