I switched over to MX-linux because I had some fairly old laptop that I was too attached to to exchange for something newer. Since, I have fallen so in love with the system, that I use it for every computer in my possession. I have enjoyed it so much that I just had to post something about it and I would hate if such a great system would become unused and eventually fall into decay.
I am using the latest version of MX linux with the XFCE desktop environment. The speed up from switching from ubuntu 22 to MX is extremely noticeable on some of my older devices. What I love the most about it is that it cuts down a lot of the excessive stuff in ubuntu, but keeps what I feel are the essential features. Theres support for multiple workspaces, there's a full set of basic programs for editing files, viewing PDFs etc, there's the usual GUI-based tools for configuring stuff like ethernet connections, disk partitions, mouse options and keyboard layout. And also, every software that I have used for ubuntu and tried on MX -has worked. This includes steam, inkscape, blender, pycharm, spyder, VS code and fiji.
Great system, super happy that this project exists. Writing this on a dell M4800 on MX, still going strong after more than 10 years of service. I run MX on most of my old <2009 mac pros which would basically melt when running ubuntu.
