GNOME is fast, polished, consistent, smooth and stable. This is a sequence of 5 words that almost nobody will use to describe Windows 11, Just browse r/windows11 and you'll see the collection of bugs and performance issues.
GNOME is very comfortable to use, there's a clear attention to detail, in the visuals, in the animations, in the layout... and the activities overview is fantastic. One keystroke or one gesture and you can have a glance at everything going on, and then fades back and stays out of the way again.
I'm not going to claim that GNOME's formula is the only valid way or the superior way, but it can be an extremely efficient one, at least for me. Most of the time I just hit the meta key and start typing - and quickly I bring up the app, window or file/directory I am looking for. Some people say GNOME is supposed to be used by spreading windows in different workspaces, but search and type is most efficient for me.
And let's not forget the latest crop of GNOME circle apps which stay true to their purpose of doing one thing and doing it well. I like the overall design and CSD. Yes, Qt applications don't exactly feel at home, I use QGIS and Krita almost daily, but it's not any deal-breaker if you're coming from Windows patchwork quilt.
Using Fedora Workstation has truly felt a boost in my productivity and even well being. I just have pleasure using my laptops while getting work done.
Some things are not optimal or can't be 'officially' configured, but I was bewildered to find out that there's an extension for tweaking almost everything. Impatience speeds up the animations, Hot Edge triggers overview on the bottom edge, Windows search provider adds window search to overview, caffeine inhibits suspension... I like the default workflow, I am not trying to turn GNOME into something else, just little adjustments here and there.
I think GNOME is a fantastic desktop and it's amazing to me that a free software community can produce something better than the dominant OS.
