As a full-stack developer, one of my favorite things about working in tech is the endless opportunity to explore and implement cutting-edge tools. Recently, I’ve been focusing on Next.js, Prisma, and how they seamlessly integrate with databases like MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
In this article, I’ll share my experience building a QA Engineer dashboard to monitor product testing. The project involved transitioning from PHP to Next.js, adding modern features like:
• Dashboard with testing machine cards
• QR code integration for product management
• Dynamic product and machine management
Why Next.js?
The app router in Next.js allows for a highly modular architecture. Combining it with Shadcn UI and Tailwind CSS, I created a sleek, responsive interface that feels effortless to use.
Database with Prisma and MongoDB
Prisma made database schema management and querying a breeze. By connecting it to MongoDB, I could work with data in a structured and scalable way. In the future, I plan to experiment with Supabase and SQLite to explore additional database options.
Challenges and Lessons Learned
1. Migrating Legacy Code: Rewriting PHP code into Next.js wasn’t just about syntax—it was about rethinking how the app should work in a modern framework.
2. QR Code Integration: Leveraging libraries for QR code scanning added a layer of interactivity that significantly improved the user experience.
3. Deployment with Docker: I’m currently exploring containerization for deploying the app using Docker and Nginx. While there’s a learning curve, it’s worth the effort for streamlined workflows.
What’s Next?
This project has fueled my passion for building full-stack applications. My next steps include:
• Mastering Vue.js alongside Laravel for a government service app.
• Diving deeper into Docker to fully embrace containerized environments.
