This is the first time I am writing a recap of a year after realizing that it's another great way to showcase my work, and also being encourage by my mentor to write on my work. This post is a look back on all the main things I did this last year and a hint to what’s coming in 2025. Last year I created this posts on my blog, this year is a look back at 2024. Let’s jump to the highlights.
2024, I started a new job as a Program Assistant on the very first week of the year. The first two weeks were the introductory and trial period. Then I had to replace the Business Developer on an ongoing project, who unexpectedly left the company without any notice. I also worked a lot on customer care tasks at my company, while working on the different projects we were launching/reviving. It has been a very stressful and busy journey.
Things I'm proud of:
- Having unforgettable coaching sessions with my mentor (I'll write another post on our works)
- Being an IOC (International Organizing Committee) member for PyCon Africa.
- Organizing PyCon Africa 2024 and DjangoCon US 2024.
- Being a reviewer for PyCon US 2024-ongoing, and for PyData Global 2024.
- Speaking at PyLadiesCon 2024 on a panel discussion with amazing ladies from Ghana.
- Being nominated as a DSF member.
- Being nominated for the DSF Board of Directors Election.
- Serving as a Staff Support for the TechWomen Cameroon Association and as a Project Assistant for the first edition of their High Impact Skills Prog
ram. - Joining the Black Python Dev movement, founded by Jay Miller a friend of a good friend of mine who's being an amazing mentor for me so far.
Some amazing new people the community brought to me
Back in 2023, DjangoCon Africa made me meet Dawn Wages [shout out to her!!!] who has been an amazing mentor and a good friend, very supportive when it was difficult to keep it up with our regular meeting. She would text from time to time to check up on me.
I've also met Ruth Ikegah who has been a good friend to me, thanks to Abigail Dogbe one of my old friends the community has given me.
I had the opportunity to work with Peter Grandstaff, the Chair for DjangoCon US 2024, Jeff Tripplet, Afi, Tim Schilling, Anna Makarudze, Mannie Young, Michael Young, Muheue Ngazetunde, Daniele Procida, Kojo Idrissa who's a big support to the Black Community.
