Can Linux do four Virtual Monitors on one screen at the same time? (Not a support request)

Not sure what the specific terminology is, but what I want is this:

1. Split a 43-inch monitor into 4 separate monitors or Virtual Desktops.

2. The desktops need to act as a monitor, when apps are full screened, and only take up the corner they are allotted.

Is this something that Linux can currently do?

What is the name used for this function (if it exists)?

I don't need anybody to hold my hand. I just need to know what it is called or where to start looking.
