I’ve recently fallen in love with the early 2000s skeuomorphic look and am really struggling to find a DE that can let me use that. I do need a dark theme though.
XFCE is close but I need Wayland for fractional scaling, the experimental support is not daily drivable.
KDE is based on Qt, and is a bit heavy for my liking. I don’t like Qt.
Gnome is obviously out of the question.
Cinnamon is good but none of the skeuomorphic themes I like support it.
MATE is very close but again struggles with iffy Wayland support.
I haven’t tried Budgie, could be an option?
LXQt, based on Qt, out of the question.
You see my struggle 😂? I’m thinking maybe building out my own DE based on a stacking compositor, maybe Labwc. Does anyone know any good GTK shells that can be used for that?
Apologies if this post is not following the rules of the sub, I chose not to post this on r/linux4noobs since, well, I’m not a noob 🤷♂️.
