My name is Angelica, and I'm an aspiring programmer.
I've been fascinated with technology for my entire life. I haven't made much progress in achieving my dream career, and often feel that I should just give it up.
However, there's not a single thing I want more than to finally call myself a professional programmer.
I won't offer excuses or dwell on the struggles that have shaped my life thus far — everyone has a story.
What I will do is manifest my dream into reality.
This journal will document my journey from beginner to professional. It's a space to hold myself accountable, reflect, and remind myself that progress is nonlinear.
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
In the last few weeks, I've been reviewing JavaScript and even got started on a couple of personal projects. I read through the entire first JavaScript All-in-One For Dummies in one day. I took concise notes on each chapter and created reference pages for Built-In Methods from Strings to Objects. I re-familiarized myself with HTML and CSS. I was on a roll! ...Or so I thought.
I could feel self-doubt start creeping in, slowly paralyzing me. For days, I spent hours staring blankly at the screen. I was so frustrated, I wanted to physically tear up my Notion pages and set them on fire.
I wondered what else I could do with my life. Briefly.
Very briefly.
I knew that I couldn't linger on these thoughts for long.
After all, I have a dream to keep chasing.
