Subnautica 2’s sequel hit choppy waters when Unknown Worlds’ top trio—CEO Ted Gill and co-founders Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire—jumped ship after Krafton announced a 2026 delay. The ex-devs are now suing Krafton for breach of contract, alleging the push-back was a sneaky way to dodge a $250 million bonus they’d share with the team. Krafton fired back, calling their departure a betrayal and claiming leadership bailed to chase side projects, which they say caused content cuts and schedule chaos.
Amid leaked internal slides and public press releases, Krafton insists the delay was purely to polish the game (not mess with bonuses) and has tapped Steve Papoutsis as the new CEO to keep things afloat. With both sides trading accusations—“confusion in direction” vs. “financial gamesmanship”—fans are left waiting to see who sinks first in this high-stakes legal standoff.
