The first time I installed and used Linux my screen looked something like this.
An update caused a blue screen of death and I had to once again reinstall.And I was dreading the possibility of a hung installer which was very common and also the length of time it took to install this many updates on a poor internet connection. Back then a Windows installation took all day and some times into the the night if something went wrong. And then there was the activation procedure, if it did not work on line on you had to phone activate and you to call out a load of numbers and then the person on the other end would ask you something like "Is this the only computer this copy of Windows is on" and I say "Yes" and another load of numbers is called back to you and you had to enter them and hope for the best. So much time wasted doing all this and I had enough and couldn't do this again after so many reinstalls.This when I started looking for alternatives. Linuxmint 17 was my first Linux distro and burning a iso to a dvd (then this was a thing) installing and updating took me about an hour and no stupid activation I felt freedom from the onset. What a breath of fresh air it was to have this great new Os and found it just as easy as using Windows without all the tedious stuff like decluttering or disk cleanup or defragmenting Hdd's or manual Os optimizations and not having to go across the web looking for software that you probably had to pay for was fantastic.Yes I had to learn a new file system and the package manager the terminal and commands and all the Linux lingo but it was far better than all the crap that came with Windows. It's only then realized my loath for Windows and the colossal amount of time I spent wasted on it and seeing the horror of an Os Windows is today, well it's no wonder Zorin Os has had more than one million downloads in a month and other distributions are seeing high traffic. I used Linuxmint for about six months and distro hopped for a good number of years and been on Arch for three years which is my longest stretch on any distribution.For me Linux just works and works well and never given me any reason to look back. I love penguins and seeing them makes me smile.This is my Linux story. What's yours!!
