🕸️ HauntWrite — A Spooky Writing Experience Built with Kiro IDE

If you've ever wished your writing tool could feel atmospheric, mysterious, and maybe even a little haunted, HauntWrite is the perfect blend of creativity and code. Built using Kiro IDE, this project transforms a simple writing app into an immersive horror-themed experience — complete with spooky soundscapes, smoky transitions, and a chilling first-visit interaction.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the inspiration, features, technical implementation, and lessons learned while building HauntWrite.

👻 Inspiration

The idea came from wanting to break away from the usual clean, minimal writing tools. I envisioned a writing environment that:

🪄 What HauntWrite Does

HauntWrite is a web-based writing environment featuring:

🔥 1. First-Visit Haunted Reveal

When a user opens the site for the first time:

• A spooky sound effect is triggered.


• The screen shows a fully black, smoky wallpaper.


• Through a smooth animation, the smoke slowly clears, revealing the main homepage.

This sets the tone instantly.

🧛 2. Funky + Scary Logo Animation

The HauntWrite diary logo is not just static.

It:

• animates on hover,


• uses flicker effects,


• appears "possessed" with glitch transitions.

📝 3. Dark-Themed Writing Interface

The writing area maintains:

• a moody atmosphere,


• smooth fonts,


• soft red highlights for active elements,


• immersive background ambience.

It’s designed to feel like writing in an old haunted journal.

🎧 4. Background Ambience

A faint looping ambience plays in the background (optional toggle).

Helps the writer stay in the creative zone.

🔇 2. Handling First-Visit Sound

Browsers restrict autoplay audio.

Solution: trigger the sound on the first user interaction (scroll/click).

🌓 3. Maintaining Performance

Dark themes + animated elements + audio = performance struggle.
