We use open source to accelerate time to market and increase innovation. But how do we know these projects will ‘continue’ to be viable for our business? If your product relies on specific projects, it is crucial to continuously evaluate their long-term viability and the level of company involvement within the communities. This ensures not only their continued availability for your business but also for the wider ecosystem. By assessing the project from multiple perspectives – both internal and external to the community – you can avoid unexpected impacts such as shortage of maintainers, undesired license changes and the impact of unexpected shifts in direction.
