Apple Reopens Sainte-Catherine Store in Downtown Montreal

Apple reopened its Sainte-Catherine store today in downtown Montreal. The company moved the store into a restored historic building and more than doubled the size of its previous location. The new space marks a fresh chapter for Apple’s retail presence in the city.



A larger store inside a restored landmark



In a press release issued today, Apple said the reimagined store expands its footprint on Rue Saint-Catherine while preserving the building’s original character. The company kept key architectural elements and updated the interior to match its current retail design.



Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail and People, attended the opening and spoke about the store’s role in the community.




“For nearly 20 years, we’ve been proud to be part of the downtown Montreal community, whose spirit of creativity and innovation continues to inspire us. We’re incredibly excited to build on this long-standing relationship and create a destination where customers can experience the very best of Apple.”




The store spans the first floor of the renovated building at the corner of Rue Saint-Catherine and Rue de la Montagne. The upper floors are not open to customers. Apple permanently closed its previous Sainte-Catherine location after the move.



Design details and accessibility





Inside, the layout feels familiar, with side-by-side counters for the Genius Bar and Apple Pickup. At the same time, the space adds unique touches, including a curved wood ceiling and a redesigned entrance.



Apple also focused on accessibility. The store features varied table and seating heights, wider paths for wheelchair users, and clearer circulation throughout the floor. Outside, local artisans restored the historic façade using Québec stone, granite, and copperwork.



Local art and opening celebrations





To mark the reopening, Montreal-based illustrator Catherine Potvin led live iPad art sessions at the store, creating custom illustrations for Apple shopping bags. She will return on Saturday, January 17, for additional demos between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. local time.



Apple also shared a custom Mac and iPhone wallpaper to celebrate the new store. Early visitors received complimentary tote bags and winter toques, a practical gift as Montreal temperatures sit well below freezing.



With a larger footprint and a carefully restored home, Apple Sainte-Catherine now stands as one of the company’s most prominent retail spaces in Canada.
