If you observe engineers who grow quickly, you’ll notice something subtle.
They expose their thinking.
They don’t just write code. They explain why they chose that design. They ask for feedback early. They admit uncertainty openly. They review others’ work with curiosity instead of ego.
This behavior accelerates growth for three reasons:
Feedback arrives sooner.
Mistakes surface earlier.
Understanding deepens through articulation.
Engineers who hide their uncertainty stagnate quietly. Engineers who surface it grow visibly.
It feels uncomfortable at first. Nobody enjoys revealing gaps in knowledge. But software engineering is collaborative by nature. Growth compounds when thinking is shared.
The fastest path to improvement isn’t grinding in isolation. It’s participating in conversations that challenge your assumptions.
