Wanted to get a career in Linux Administration

I was told by my cousin that I should go into Linux admin work. He told me to get a Red Hat System Administrator certification because I have the qualifications to work in IT with my background projects I've been doing over the years.

Here is how I started and where I am now.

• I first started with networking port forwarding routers to allow my Xbox to connect to the Xbox Live service.
• I used an old laptop and installed Ubuntu Desktop to run Minecraft. I learned to further port forward and prioritize traffic to my laptop.
• I eventually moved on from that and bought a used Dell server from someone in the States, (I live in Canada). I stated to run Ubuntu server. I did small projects like installing a LAMP stack and running my own website.
• I moved on from the site to hosting my own Plex server with automated torrenting of movies and TV shows upon request. It uses several applications that are connected together to achieve this. I have also mounted a drive dedicated specifically for all the movies and TV shows just in case my OS drive dies.
• I have also hosted multiple websites from the same server and have used subdomains to organize my multiple webfronts for each application for the Plex media server.

I have dabbled in Ubuntu server for several years and wanted to get a certification to prove my knowledge and also learn some new things. I also hope to learn my own shortcomings and fix any bad habits that I have learned over the years. For example, I know I need to actually learn more about permissions.

I wanted to know if the path I am going to be taking is the right one for getting a foothold in the industry.

As mentioned above I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and wanted to get a job somewhere close by after I get my RHCSA. I have learned that I really love learning and working with Linux.
