Some Android devices have reportedly shipped with malware embedded directly in the firmware. That means the malicious code exists on the device from the moment it is purchased.
Because firmware operates below the Android sandbox layer, the malware can have deep system access. In theory, it could steal banking credentials, install additional apps, run cryptojacking operations, or monitor user activity without easy removal.
If malware can exist at the firmware level before a user even activates a device, how should organizations rethink trust in mobile hardware supply chains?
