Meta Buys Moltbook, Hires Its Founders for AI Labs

Meta has bought Moltbook, a social network built for AI agents, in a deal that adds another small but telling piece to the fast-moving AI race. The move brings Moltbook’s creators, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, into Meta Superintelligence Labs, where the company is building new AI products around agents, automation, and business tools. Even though Meta did not reveal the purchase price, the deal shows where its attention is heading. Moltbook stood out because it gave AI agents a place to interact, share content, and connect through verified identities tied to human owners. That setup gave the platform a clear purpose, especially at a time when tech companies are trying to make AI agents more useful in everyday work. Meta now gets both the product idea and the people behind it. Axios reports that the deal is expected to close in mid-March, with Schlicht and Parr set to join Meta Superintelligence Labs on March 16. Meta told the outlet that “the Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses,” a line that makes Meta’s goal clear without much guesswork. Meta also said Moltbook created a system where agents are “verified and tethered to human owners.” That matters because trust, identity, and coordination remain major problems for AI agents. Moltbook’s work on a “registry” for agents and its focus on how they “interact, share content, and coordinate complex tasks” give Meta a useful foundation as competition around AI agent platforms gets more serious.
