Apple Releases tvOS 26.4 With Genius Browse and Removes iTunes Apps

Apple has released tvOS 26.4 for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, bringing a few useful changes to the Apple TV experience. The update adds a new Genius Browse section in the Apple TV app, makes subtitle controls easier to access, and introduces a new HDMI audio option called Continuous Audio Connection.

This update also removes the standalone iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps, which Apple had already started phasing out earlier. That means old iTunes wishlists are no longer supported, and Apple has directed affected users to move saved items to the Watchlist inside the Apple TV app.

How to update in short steps

Updating your Apple TV is simple:

Open Settings

Go to System

Select Software Update

Download and install tvOS 26.4

If automatic updates are turned on, your Apple TV may already update on its own.

All the Changes

Here are the main changes in tvOS 26.4:

Genius Browse in the Apple TV appApple has added a new Genius Browse section that helps you discover movies and TV shows through regularly updated recommendation categories based on your viewing preferences.

Standalone iTunes apps are goneThe dedicated iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps have now been removed from Apple TV. Video content is fully folded into the Apple TV app.

Subtitle controls are easier to reachtvOS 26.4 adds quicker access to subtitle customization options, making it easier to adjust how subtitles look while watching supported content.

New Continuous Audio Connection settingApple has added a new HDMI audio option called Continuous Audio Connection under Audio Format settings. This feature keeps a Dolby MAT connection active for smoother switching between audio formats, and reports around the beta suggested it helped with issues like popping sounds, volume drops, and odd behavior on some speaker and receiver setups.

General fixes and improvementsApple’s software notes also mention performance and stability improvements in this release.

tvOS 26.4 is not a huge update, but it does bring a better content discovery option, cleaner app organization, and a potentially helpful audio fix for people using external sound systems. For many Apple TV users, those practical changes will matter more than flashy additions.
