Apple Plans Major iPhone Redesign With Foldable and Anniversary Models

Apple is working on a three year roadmap to redesign the iPhone and introduce new form factors. The plan focuses on major hardware changes that will reshape how the iPhone looks and functions over the next few years.



Bloomberg reports that Apple began this plan in September 2025 with the launch of the redesigned iPhone 17 Pro models and the new iPhone Air. The updated Pro models introduced a fresh aluminum design and a new camera layout, while the iPhone Air became the thinnest iPhone ever released.



Bloomberg states that this roadmap remains a priority for Apple’s leadership, including hardware chief John Ternus.



The next step in this plan is expected in September 2026, when Apple plans to launch its first foldable iPhone. The device is expected to open like a book, offering a larger screen for videos, gaming, and multitasking. Reports suggest the foldable iPhone will include a 7.7 inch inner display and a 5.3 inch outer display. Apple is also working on reducing the screen crease to improve the viewing experience.



Reports indicate that the foldable model may include two rear cameras, a front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID. Apple is also expected to introduce software changes to support multitasking, similar to features seen on iPad devices.



Looking ahead, Apple is preparing a special iPhone for its 20th anniversary in 2027. The device is expected to feature a seamless design with a curved glass body and no visible cutouts. Reports suggest the front camera may sit under the display.



Apple highlighted strong demand for its iPhones in a recent statement.




Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “iPhone had its best ever quarter driven by unprecedented demand, with all time records across every geographic segment.” He also said demand was “simply staggering.”




These upcoming models are expected to help Apple maintain its growth in the coming years.
