When I decided to build my developer portfolio, I didn't just want a website — I wanted an experience.

Something that feels alive. Something that reflects not just what I've built, but how I think as a developer.

This is how I built my portfolio using React and Vercel — and how I added a dynamic status feature to make it feel real-time and personal.

The Goal

Most portfolios look like this:

  • Static pages

  • Project lists

  • Contact forms

Nothing wrong with that — but I wanted more.

I wanted:

  • A strong visual identity

  • Smooth animations

  • A modern developer aesthetic

  • A feature that stands out

That's where the status system came in.

Why I Chose React

React gave me the flexibility to build exactly what I had in mind.

Key reasons:

  • Component-based architecture

  • Reusable UI

  • Easy state management

  • Perfect for interactive experiences

I broke my portfolio into components:

  • Hero

  • About

  • Projects

  • Experience

  • Contact

This made everything clean and scalable.

Designing the Experience

I didn't want a "normal" UI — I wanted something immersive.

So I focused on:

  • Custom loader animations

  • Cursor effects

  • Smooth transitions

  • Gradient and glass-style UI

  • Interactive hover states

The goal was simple:

> Make the user feel the site, not just scroll through it.

The Live Status Feature

This is my favorite part of the entire project.

Instead of a static portfolio, I added a status feature where I can update what I'm currently doing.

For example:

  • "Building a new fintech app"

  • "Open to freelance work"

  • "Learning backend scaling"

💭 Why This Feature Matters

Most portfolios are frozen in time.

Mine isn't.

This feature allows me to:

  • Share real-time updates

  • Show personality

  • Let recruiters see what I'm actively doing

  • Keep the site fresh without redesigning it

How It Works (Conceptually)

The status system is simple but powerful.

It can be powered by:

  • Local state (for simple use cases)

  • An API (Node.js / Express)

  • Firebase or a lightweight CMS

The key idea:

> Make updating your portfolio as easy as posting a tweet.

Deployment with Vercel

Once I finished building, deployment was straightforward.

Steps:

  1. Push code to GitHub

  2. Connect repository to Vercel

  3. Deploy instantly

Every update goes live in seconds.

Performance Considerations

I focused on keeping everything fast and smooth.

Optimizations:

  • Lightweight assets

  • Efficient animations

  • Responsive layout

  • Minimal re-renders

Result:

A fast, responsive experience across all devices.

Lessons I Learned

1. Your portfolio is a product

Treat it like something people interact with.

2. Details matter

Small animations and interactions make a big difference.

3. Stand out

The status feature alone makes my portfolio memorable.

4. Performance is part of UX

Speed is just as important as design.

Final Thoughts

My portfolio is more than a showcase — it's a reflection of how I build.

And most importantly:

> It evolves with me.
