I feel like it's going to take someone hijacking a fleet of drones at the Olympics before the manufacturers will start considering putting some basic security frameworks (maybe an RSA key for connection to the device from an operating terminal controlling them, or even basic forms of authentication with time-based tokens) to be included in the design of things like UAVs and IoT.

Why does it take a disaster to prevent a disaster? Imagine what could happen with someone hijacking 10,000 drones during a performance. It won't be pretty. That's just with UAV's, known vulnerabilities like those found in , almost anything with a connection, can cause disruption ranging from breaches of privacy to actual bodily harm.
