There's a strange comfort in opening a notebook at 2 AM and pulling color out of a tensor. The model doesn't sleep, doesn't tire, doesn't complain when I revise the prompt for the seventeenth time. It treats every attempt as the first attempt. I don't know yet whether that's generous or empty — probably both.
For most of my life, 'studio' meant a room. Wooden floor, north light, jars of oil and turpentine. Now studio also means a directory of seeds and weights, a chat window where I can ask for a thing and watch it appear, half-right, asking to be corrected. The materials are new but the fight is the same. You want the work to mean something. You want it to surprise you. You want, at the end, to recognize a piece of yourself you didn't know was looking back.
What is changing isn't art. What is changing is the conversation. We're learning to talk to systems that have read everything and felt nothing. We're discovering that precision in language is a kind of love — the more specific you are, the more the model can give you back something real. The vague prompt produces the vague image. The honest prompt produces something you didn't know you were after.
I keep thinking the next decade of craft isn't in tools. It's in vocabulary. In knowing how to name the thing you want before it exists. In keeping a private dictionary of textures, hesitations, atmospheres. In refusing the first answer until the right one shows up.
The model is patient. It will wait.
