Apple Delays Siri AI on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in EU Due to DMA Rules

Apple has confirmed that Siri AI will not launch on iPhone and iPad in the European Union when iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 arrive later this year. The company says ongoing regulatory issues tied to the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) have prevented it from bringing the new AI-powered Siri experience to those devices at launch.



While EU users on iPhone and iPad will miss out on the new features, Apple says Siri AI will still be available on macOS 27, visionOS 27, and watchOS 27 because those platforms are not subject to the same DMA requirements.



Apple Blames DMA Requirements



According to Apple, EU regulators rejected several proposals designed to bring Siri AI to the region while maintaining strong privacy and security protections. The company says the DMA would require it to provide third-party virtual assistants with deep access to user data and system controls that Apple believes create significant security risks.



Apple also revealed that it developed a framework called Trusted System Agent, which would allow competing assistants to access similar capabilities in a more controlled way. However, the European Commission did not approve the proposal.




“We’re deeply disappointed that our EU users won’t have Siri AI on iPhone or iPad when we share our new software releases later this year. Our hope is to eventually bring Siri AI to the EU, and we will continue to engage with EU regulators on a path forward. However, their refusal to engage constructively on solutions that preserve privacy and security means we do not currently have a timeline for Siri AI’s availability on iOS and iPadOS in the EU.”

Apple says EU users on iPhone and iPad will not get several major Siri AI features, including the conversation history app, expanded Visual Intelligence tools, integrated writing features, Siri mode in the Camera app, and other capabilities announced at WWDC26.



For now, Apple says it will continue discussions with regulators, but the company currently has no timeline for when Siri AI will become available on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the European Union.
