Apple Briefly Listed Unsupported iPads for iPadOS 27, Then Removed the Evidence

Apple appears to have removed a confusing iPadOS 27 beta 1 restore image listing after it briefly suggested support for older iPad Pro models that are not included in the official compatibility list.



When Apple announced iPadOS 27, the company confirmed support for several iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini models. However, developers soon noticed that Apple's Developer website included a restore image for certain older iPad Pro devices that were missing from the official compatibility list.



According to 9to5Mac, the restore image referenced the 11-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generation) and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd and 4th generation). The file name also specifically mentioned those devices, which raised questions about whether Apple had accidentally left them off the compatibility page.



To verify the situation, an installation attempt was made on a 3rd-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but the process failed. Apple has not publicly commented on the discrepancy, but the company has since removed the restore image listing while keeping the official iPadOS 27 compatibility list unchanged.

The removal of the restore image strongly suggests that the listing was an error rather than an indication of expanded iPadOS 27 support. One likely explanation is that Apple accidentally carried over an older device grouping from previous iPadOS releases when publishing the beta files.
