Hello, DEV Community 👋

This is my first post here, so I thought I'd start with a simple introduction and explain why I'm joining the community.

I'm an Information Systems graduate from Nigeria, and I recently completed my NYSC service year. For those unfamiliar with it, NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) is a one-year programme that sends graduates to different parts of the country to encourage national integration and expose us to experiences outside our home states.

Now that I've completed that chapter, I'm stepping into the next stage of my career.

I'm currently a junior DevOps engineer.

Like many people starting out in tech today, I'm trying to grow my skills, build meaningful projects, and find my place in an industry that seems to be changing every week.

Starting a Career in the Age of AI

It's impossible to ignore the impact AI is having on software development.

Every day there seems to be a new model, a new coding assistant, or a new discussion about the future of engineering jobs.

As someone at the beginning of my career, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't intimidating.

The traditional advice for standing out as a developer often feels less straightforward now. Building projects is still important, but so is learning how to use AI effectively. Understanding infrastructure is important, but so is understanding how rapidly the tools around us are evolving.

At times it feels like the target is constantly moving.

But despite the uncertainty, I'm optimistic.

What excites me most isn't necessarily the large AI companies making headlines. It's the incredible amount of innovation happening in open source. Developers around the world are building tools, frameworks, models, and workflows that anyone can learn from and contribute to.

That spirit of sharing knowledge is one of the reasons I wanted to join DEV.

Why I'm Here

I've spent most of my time online consuming content rather than creating it.

I read blog posts.

I watch tutorials.

I browse documentation.

I learn from other people's experiences.

But I rarely share my own.

I decided it's time to change that.

This account will serve as a place where I document my learning journey, share projects I'm working on, write about DevOps topics I'm exploring, and occasionally talk about challenges I encounter along the way.

Some posts might be technical walkthroughs.

Some might be project breakdowns.

Some might simply be lessons learned from building something that didn't work the first time.

What You Can Expect

Over the coming months, I plan to write about:

DevOps concepts I'm learning

Linux and system administration

Cloud technologies

CI/CD pipelines

Infrastructure and automation

Open-source tools

Personal projects

Career lessons from someone early in their tech journey

I don't claim to be an expert.

I'm still learning.

But I've realized that waiting until you're an expert before sharing your work often means never sharing at all.

Let's Learn Together

One of the things I'm looking forward to most is connecting with other developers.

Whether you're a beginner, an experienced engineer, or somewhere in between, I'd love to learn from your experiences and perspectives.

If you're also early in your career, maybe some of my posts will be relatable.

If you're more experienced, I'm sure I'll learn a lot from your feedback.

Either way, I'm excited to start contributing instead of just lurking.

Thanks for reading my first DEV post.

Here's to building, learning, and growing in public. 🚀
