iPhone Air 2 Could Launch With the Same Chip as the Base iPhone 18

Apple’s next iPhone Air could fix one major complaint with a dual-camera setup, but a new rumor suggests that the device may also lose some performance appeal with a standard A20 chip instead of the A20 Pro. Yeux1122’s blog claims the second-generation iPhone Air is being tested with a 48MP + 48MP rear camera system, which would make the phone more useful for buyers who skipped the first model because of its single-camera design. However, the same rumor says Apple will use the regular A20 chip in the iPhone Air 2, while the A20 Pro will stay limited to higher-end models such as the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and the rumored iPhone Fold. The iPhone Air already sits in a difficult position because its slim design comes with clear trade-offs, and using the same chip as the base iPhone 18 could make its higher price harder to justify for many buyers. Apple may choose the standard A20 to control costs, especially as newer 2nm chips from TSMC are expected to be expensive, while memory and storage costs also continue to pressure phone makers. Apple’s Slim iPhone Future Looks Uncertain The dual-camera upgrade would help the iPhone Air 2 feel more complete, but the rumored chip downgrade could weaken its flagship image at a time when slim phones already need a stronger reason to exist. If demand remains weak, Apple may keep production limited and rethink the Air lineup after 2027.
