Gemini Spark Rolls Out To The Mac App For Local Task Automation

Google just started rolling out a big update for its macOS desktop app. The newest version brings in Gemini Spark, a tool made to handle simple computer chores using artificial intelligence. Instead of just answering questions, this helper actually does real work with your local files. Right now, it is available as an early test version for Google AI Ultra members who live in the United States.



Spark organizes your local desktop files and builds spreadsheets



When you get the newest update on your Mac, you will spot a new Spark tab in the sidebar. This menu lets the AI helper take action on your computer. For instance, you can tell it to look at a messy downloads folder and move all the PDFs into their own specific folders.



It also links up with Workspace apps. If you have a bunch of invoice files sitting on your desktop, you can ask the agent to grab the numbers and build a budget spreadsheet. It can even follow a schedule to keep that sheet updated.



Users control privacy access and can soon trigger tasks remotely



To keep things safe, Apple users have full control over what the software can see. You set up specific linked folders, meaning the assistant only looks at files you actually want it to see. You can disconnect these folders at any point.



In the near future, an update will let you start these tasks from your phone. You could be riding the bus and ask the assistant to find a work report on your desktop, grab the final numbers, and email them to you. Your computer does all the work in the background while you are out. This turns a basic chat window into an active helper that gets real work done without needing you to watch over it.
