Elon Musk Denies Report of SpaceX AI Phone Prototype

SpaceX is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence device with a slim design that is thinner than Apple's iPhone, although CEO Elon Musk has strongly denied the claim.



The reported prototype was allegedly shown to investors and stakeholders before the company's expected initial public offering, with the project said to combine AI features from SpaceXAI with custom software and Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. However, Musk later responded to the report on X, calling it "utterly false" without sharing further details.



According to The Wall Street Journal, the prototype remains in an early stage of development, and the company reportedly told investors that the design continues to evolve with no guarantee that the product will ever reach the market.



The report also claims the device would run on a proprietary operating system and integrate AI technology developed through SpaceX's expanding artificial intelligence business.




"The rocket and AI company showed the prototype, which features a sleek design that is slimmer than an iPhone, to some investors and other stakeholders ahead of the company's mega initial public offering,"




The reported AI device follows SpaceX's growing investment in artificial intelligence after bringing xAI under its broader business. The company has also revealed its AI1 orbital data center satellite, showing that its AI ambitions extend beyond consumer products into large-scale computing infrastructure powered by space technology.



At the same time, the AI hardware market continues to attract major technology companies. Apple is reportedly developing AI-focused wearable products, while OpenAI is working with former Apple designer Jony Ive on dedicated AI hardware. Even so, AI-first consumer devices have struggled to gain mainstream success so far, making the long-term demand for this category uncertain.
