The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Review (PC)

I’ve always been a fan of the ACE Team games, because they are a studio that always pushes the limits and experiments with something new. And clearly, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a byproduct of that. It’s a roguelite game at heart, and the idea is that you have up to 4 people (although you can also play on your own), explorers that are embarking on expeditions and your focus is to try and grab treasure, while also getting back to the ship alive. And as you can imagine, things get off the rails very fast, because these places you visit are filled with dangerous and maybe even lethal enemies.

The idea of going on an expedition during the 1600s is amazing, and the game does combine that with a solid horror element and plenty of ideas from the Lovecraftian lore. What you’re getting here is an exceptional, very creative experience where you fear for your life almost all the time.
