‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 3, Episode 2 Recap: Negan Kills the Dama

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, Episode 2 brings Maggie and Negan face to face with the Dama once again, but their disagreement over her fate creates another crack in their fragile partnership.

Maggie begins building a new community



After finding shelter at the fortified hospital, Maggie starts planning a safer future for Manhattan’s survivors. She agrees to share leadership responsibilities with Renata and wants to expand the community towards Central Park.



Negan has little faith in the plan. He believes the growing settlement will attract dangerous people and create new problems that its leaders cannot control. His concerns increase after the Dama and her remaining followers attack Maggie’s group.



Maggie, Negan and Perlie track the Dama to an abandoned theatre, where a violent confrontation leaves most of her supporters dead. Negan prepares to shoot the Dama, but Maggie stops him and brings her back to the hospital as a prisoner.



Negan kills the Dama



Maggie refuses to execute the Dama, despite everything she did to Hershel and the other survivors. She places her inside a cage and later gives her food along with a knife, allowing her to decide whether she wants to eat or end her life.



The Dama chooses to eat, but Negan enters the cell after Maggie leaves. He tells her that he knows how dangerous she remains before stabbing her in the heart. The killing happens mostly off-screen, although her screams make it clear that Negan has ignored Maggie’s decision.



Negan acts partly out of revenge because the Dama previously cut off Hershel’s toe. He also believes killing her protects Maggie, Hershel and the hospital community from another attack.



What the ending means for Maggie and Negan



While Negan removes an immediate threat, his actions could damage his relationship with Maggie. She wants to prove that survivors can change, while Negan continues to believe that lasting safety sometimes requires brutal choices.



The episode ends with Maggie and Renata lighting the Statue of Liberty as a beacon for other survivors. Their invitation could help Manhattan grow, but it will also bring strangers whose intentions remain unknown.
