Apple’s MacBook Air Shortage Is Now Causing Weeks-Long Delivery Delays

MacBook Air shortages are getting worse, with Apple’s most popular laptop becoming increasingly difficult to buy directly from the company as memory supply constraints continue affecting Mac production. Most 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air configurations now carry delivery estimates of around two to three weeks, while some upgraded models require considerably longer waits.



The shortage has expanded noticeably since early August, when MacBook Air delivery estimates generally ranged from two to six weeks depending on memory and storage.



Models configured with more unified memory remain the hardest to get because those machines require larger quantities of components already under heavy industry-wide demand.



MacBook Air availability keeps getting tighter



Apple Store pickup availability has also weakened, with many locations showing pickup dates around the first week of September rather than immediate availability. A customized 13-inch MacBook Air with 32GB of unified memory can take more than a month to ship, while some higher-end Mac configurations face even longer delays.

Why are MacBook Air shortages getting worse?



The main pressure comes from the global memory shortage, as AI companies continue buying huge quantities of memory for data centers and AI servers, reducing supply available for consumer devices. Apple has already faced similar problems with Mac mini and Mac Studio production.



The shortage affects components including:




Unified memory used across Apple silicon Macs



NAND flash chips used for SSD storage



Higher-capacity memory configurations that require additional chips




Apple has warned that supply constraints affecting its Mac, iPhone and iPad businesses will become more significant as the current quarter progresses, suggesting MacBook Air availability could remain tight rather than returning to normal quickly.
