I have a friend who's very eager to switch to Linux. We were successfully able to boot into Xubuntu (my go-to newbie distro) and everything worked. The problem was as soon as the live USB booted, the brightness was cranked all the way down, even though the brightness was full. It was fixed (ironically) by lowering the brightness. Then it worked normally.
I know Macs are discouraged around here, but are there any distros that work well for a 2015 Macbook Air? I heard Fedora and OpenSUSE are good, but I would prefer Ubuntu for ease of use. Most advanced users can't handle SE Linux or YAST. :(
