Windows Me. If you thought the hate around Vista and Windows 8 was harsh, that’s nothing compared to the original turn-of-the-millennium “bad” version of Windows.
Windows Me was the shortest-lived version of the OS, superseded just 13 months later by the far superior Windows XP. Despite debuting a bunch of important features and apps, it was a technical dinosaur, still underpinned by ancient MS-DOS code dating back to the 1980s.
And it arrived, in September 2000, just as online communities were going mainstream, giving early netizens a public platform to pour scorn on the crashy, bloated “Mistake Edition” of Windows.
