Employer emailed me my W-2 form with gmail. Is it safe?

I'm not scared about the amount I made (I'm in college), but my SSN. I have been searching google about this. I have found that gmail to gmail is safe since gmail has TLS encryption? Also, the W-2 is in pdf form which I read online that it might be better than plain text? But when I drag the pdf into let's say google docs, it shows as plain text..

Saw this from the google documentation:

When a server and client communicate, TLS ensures that no third party can overhear or tamper with any messages.

For delivery TLS to work, the email delivery services of both the sender and the receiver always have to use TLS.
