As a developer, I'm not developing desktop applications. My language of choice is python, and it's just too much of a pain to develop a desktop application is GTK or QT using python. I can see why developers keep opting for electron, while it has a huge number of disadvantages, and the javascript ecosystem is kind of a pain, it's still easier than what you need to do to use QT or GTK.
If I was to write a simple IRC client in python, I'd expect 80% of my time to be related to my GUI toolkit and not actual functionality. That's way too high.
Honestly with a more modern GUI toolkit I don't think it would be a huge challenge to recreate the core desktop applications of something like gnome.
So, two questions.
What would you like to see in a new GUI toolkit? What features are important to you?
How could we raise money for such an endeavor? Or how could the project actually make money longer term?
