Software / dB to record PC configs?

Hello,

I'm looking for a simplish set of programs that I can record about a dozen different PC's configuration status' like software version numbers, USB chipset version, etc.

Ideally I'd be able to view this data in a web GUI format like what I've seen kabana do.

Are there any recommendations? I wouldn't mind getting my feet wet in simple database development since this is a pet project and I'd find it interesting.
