Turkish Hackers Continue to Pester Austrians in a One-Sided Cyber-War

Turkish hackers have launched DoS (Denial-of-Service) attacks against the web servers of the Austrian National Bank (OeNB) as part of a one-sided feud that began at the start of the month.

The attacks took place on Friday, September 9, 2016, but bank authorities only recently disclosed them.

Officials said a group of hackers named Aslan Neferler Tim (translated from Turkish as Lion Soldiers Team) attempted to flood their server Friday night and take it down.

The group took responsibility for the attack on Twitter, admitting that they only managed to take down the website "for a while."

According to bank officials, this was not a DDoS attack, but an attempt to flood the server with over five million emails per minute. The hackers launched two separate attacks until they managed to bring down the Bank's server.
