Can I change headphone jack's options while trying linux?

So basically I want to install linux, but i want to know if my headphones will work or not. the reason is that whenever i installed windows, i needed to install realtek hd audio manager and tweak some of jack input settings to make sound work on my machine, however, as i've figured out there is no hd audio manager on linux, but there are still some workarounds with that, so i wanted to know if there is any way to try it without actually installing linux (in my case i want to install ubuntu, but as i might guess, it should apply on all other distros as well).
