Are power line network adapters a realistic security risk for the average residential user?

I installed power line network adapters for Ethernet so I don't have to cut holes in my walls our run long cables through my house and hide them under carpets to get Ethernet on the side of my house opposite the router. I've had them for several years but never had a use for them until I moved. They work fine and I had to configure absolutely nothing besides pairing them and plugging them in of course. From my understanding, the way it works is the router connects to the first adapter, then that adapter uses the wiring in the house meant for carrying electricity to communicate with the other adapter/adapters. AES-128 bit encryption is also typically used by these devices once paired to each other presumably so if a rogue adapter is added it won't be able to see what the encrypted ones are communicating.

From my limited understanding there shouldn't be any more of an added risk than using a normal Ethernet cable if the attacker isn't physically near your house with something to plug into an outlet. I've read which are both on HomePlugAV devices. All power line network adapters work basically the same from what I can tell so it would apply to other brands as well as you can see. All these attacks rely on having physical access to an outlet. While I can see why a large company that has lots of sensitive data would worry about this (and probably have the money to run cabling through the walls instead of buying power line network adapters), would a residential user realistically have anything to worry about and is it even possible for a hacker not even remotely close to you to use them as an attack vector? It doesn't seem like firmware for any brand I've seen gets updated unless to add specific features but I don't see why it'd need to be besides to mitigate against these attacks which some brands did.

My adapters don't have any firmware updates and were made about five years ago which is before people found these exploits so I'm using
