Visited a compromised Wordpress site - any harm done?

Hope this is the right place to ask this! I've x-posted it from /r/wordpress.

I visited a compromised Wordpress site that had the typical "you've been hacked!" message on its frontpage.

I noticed the site was also running a javascript from a malware source (after googling). There were no pop-ups or ads or anything untoward on the site itself, nor am I experiencing any in my browsing now.

My question is: could the script have planted something locally leading to a potentially unwanted program, or some sort of malware on my own system? I am happy to share the suspect script domain if that's useful.

I'm hoping to understand this dynamic better, i.e to see if my paranoia in this situation is warranted and local storage of unwanted programs is possible after simply visiting a compromised site, and if it is, to guarantee that it has not happened in this case.
