How to Centrally / Enterprise manage linux servers

Hello all,

I am one of the Admins of our almost Windows only environment.

We 'manage' about 500 windows servers with a team of about 10 people.

Now we have a handfull of linux servers that are 'unmanaged'. Currently it is about 10 systems, but this will grow rapidly because of the business demands.

I am looking for a way to get these linux servers (of a variety of distributions) 'under central management'.

With 'managed' I mean for now:

- Plan and perform (security) updates within the agreed maintenance windows and be able to report about is

- I would prefer ONE management interface for all the Linux machine, regardless of what distro it is..

- Log on to the machine using our active directory credentials and have normal user permissions

- Log on to the machine using our ADMIN active directory credentials (member of a specific group e.g. serverAdmins) and have root permissions or be able to su or sudo

- Per machine there will be another AD group or user that would additionally be able to access the machine and have root permissions (the supplier of owner)

- I believe we can deploy our Antivirus Solution (McAfee ePO) to linux servers, so they would be under control of the AV admins. If this would not be the case, what would be the alternative?

- Deploy settings to these machines, without the need of remoting into all these machines one-by-one

Can someone help me with the components I need to realize these goals so we can start getting these machine 'managed'?
