With Elon Musk seemly offering Twitter an offer they can't refuse and accepting Musk's offer to buy Twitter, it's got me thinking, what if Elon Musk offered to buy the Linux kernel from Linus Torvalds?

A quick google search reveals that the Linux kernel is worth $1.4 billion. Now, being that Elon Musk is the planet's richest man, what if Musk offered Linus Torvalds $1.4 billion or more to buy the Linux kernel and what if Linus accepted, what would happen to all the Linux distros then, like Ubuntu, Android, etc?
